We Need Heroes.

We need men and women who are going to stand up and say what needs to be said, no matter what the cost may be.

To many, Charlie Kirk was a hero. He is now a martyr, yes, but he remains a hero. Honestly? The man was no more than a name to me until yesterday–someone I could very vaguely place as a Christian speaker, probably somehow involved in politics.

I am so reluctant to get political because I hate the strife it causes. But here’s the thing: there’s a difference between arguing for politics and speaking for truth. It shouldn’t matter what your political affiliation is, because political systems come and go. Future generations may look back and think about how backwards our society was. (Or for fun, google Plato’s thoughts on democracy!)

I’m not here to slam democracy or even a republic (which is what the USA is actually supposed to be), I’m merely pointing out how transient human governments are and how short-sighted we are to believe we’ve arrived because of things like supposed equality and freedom of speech.

My Bible study this morning was on the failure of human kings and the perfection of Christ as King. So, the same thing can ultimately be said for monarchy–because human leadership of any kind is doomed to fail. Even the good ones fall short (for example, King David and Bathsheba). Nevertheless, human government is necessary, because:

Folks, we can’t rule ourselves. That’s been proven.

I’ve been reading a book by Leon Degrelle (again). Before he ever sided with Germany during WWII, he found himself between a rock and a hard place, seeing the demise of the West (which many refused to see) not in the coming of the Third Reich but rather in the prevailing liberalism and turning away from traditional Christian values to secularism and internationalism. He was indeed well aware of the threat posed by Germany, but saw the greater threat farther to the east, in communism.

When the Germans invaded Belgium in May 1940, Degrelle was thrown in prison by the Belgian authorities for trying to speak OBJECTIVE truth. To sort out the truth from the lies on both sides. Very few people stood with him, preferring to be deceived and lulled to sleep.

When it comes to Charlie Kirk, another thing that is popping up now is, of course, conspiracy theory. I’ve said this before and it bears repeating: while the Bible says not to call everything conspiracy, it also lists a number of conspiracies. So it pays to be prayerful about these things and not just brush them off.

Finally, my Bible reading this morning included Psalm 2:

Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth take their stand,
and the rulers conspire together
against the Lord and his Anointed One:
“Let’s tear off their chains
and throw their ropes off of us.”

The one enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord ridicules them.
Then he speaks to them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath:
“I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”

I will declare the Lord’s decree.

What I came away with from all this was that I need to pray about what my role is. I am seeing the crisis point. I’m seeing the world my kids are going to grow up in. I’m not being pessimistic. I’m being real. I’d like to stick my head in the sand but I think that is what we’ve been doing all these years and look where it has landed us.

So yes, folks, rather than allowing these things to silence us further, we have to stand. As I said, I try to remain unpolitical, but ultimately, it’s not about politics, it’s about TRUTH. Regardless of what people want to believe, there is ultimate truth, and it transcends politics in every age. It’s worth fighting for.

It’s worth dying for.
